Abby Christo: A Journey with Music and Dreams
When did you start playing music?
I started playing music when I was about 10. I learned a few chords on an old guitar at my grandparents’ house, and the rest was history!
Where was your first gig?
My first gig was at a local country music club with my grandparents. It was a gold coin donation to get into the venue, and everyone could put their name up to play a song with the house band. I was invited to play a ‘guest set,’ where they paid me $10. I still have the $10 note.
What do you do when you’re not playing music?
I love working out and spending time with my family. But there isn’t much time in my life that isn’t spent playing music or at least doing something music-related.
Who has been your biggest musical influence?
Dolly Parton, John Mayer, Shania Twain, and LeAnn Rimes, to name a few. I have so many influences!
When is your next song coming out?
My next song is called ‘Just A Broken Heart.’ It’s a sassy track about trying to downplay heartache to make myself feel better about it.
Who has been your favourite artist to see live?
I was in awe of Cody Johnson live, and I also loved Megan Moroney’s performance.
How many instruments do you play?
I play guitar and try my best with piano/keys. My goal this year is to learn the harmonica so I can do solos mid-song! I think that would be so cool.
Where do you go to get inspired to write music?
Inspiration comes at the strangest times and stems from all kinds of moments and feelings in my life. There’s no specific place that helps with inspiration, except making sure I’m out there living life so I have things to write and sing about.
Anything else you would like to share that people may not know about you?
I love old-school country music and grew up playing it. I’m moving to Nashville and can’t wait to tap into my roots, write songs with other country singer-songwriters, and chase my country music dreams.
