Meet the Artist: Ted Watson

The Musical Journey of a Rising Star

When did you start playing music?
I began playing music at 13. My little brother, who is three years younger, taught me. We then formed a band called ‘Any Given Sunday’ with a few other friends from school.

Where was your first gig?
One of my earliest gigs was at a friend’s uncle’s 50th birthday party on a farm. I was around 14-15 years old at the time.

What do you do when you’re not playing music?
I work as a designer draftsperson, creating CAD drawings for a local truck manufacturing company on the Sunshine Coast.

Who has been your biggest musical influence?
I have many influences, but John Mayer, Mark Knopfler, and Bob Dylan are always top contenders.

When is your next song coming out?
Hopefully towards the end of this year. I’m currently working on recording an album.

Who has been your favourite artist to see live?
I don’t really have a favorite, but a memorable experience was seeing Charles Bradley live at the Bilbao Festival in Spain. I had never heard of him before, but his soulful music captivated me.

How many instruments do you play?
I play guitar, bass, keys, harmonica, and percussion/drums.

Where do you go to get inspired to write music?
My main inspiration comes from playing and learning something new on the guitar. A good mix of listening to different music, trying new ideas, and being open to the outside world also fuels my creativity. Each new song inspires me to write another one.

Stay tuned for Ted Watson’s upcoming album and follow his journey as he continues to make waves in the music scene.
