ELKE LOUIE NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘KILLING TIME’ GLOBAL REVIEWS & NEW SHOW ANNOUNCED

“Strong debut from Gympie’s Elke Louie on ‘Killing Time’. Lush, haunting indie folk that seeps deep into your soul. That chord shift & vocal slide during the chorus will get you every time – such a cool progression.”

– The Point Music News, Australia

Hailing from Gympie in Queensland, emerging indie folk singer-songwriter Elke Louie has released her stirring debut single ‘Killing Time’ to critical acclaim with positive reviews from around the world, clocking up 3k streams in its first week of release.   Elke has now released a self-directed Official Music Video on YouTube following its premiere onAMNplify, filmed in Gympie last week.

Elke’s hometown launch show was a full house, and she has now announced a new show on November 29 at the Art Post Contemporary Gallery in Gympie.   Tickets are on salenow.

Elke delves into the process and her approach to making of video, “I’ve always loved film studies. Back in high school, making little scenes with my friends was great fun. So, when it came time to release KILLING TIME, I thought—why not try making my first real film clip myself?”

“I didn’t have a budget…I’m still a teen about to start Uni in Feb, but I had a vision and plenty of help from my Partner, my mum, her 4k camera, and the kind of artistic enthusiasm a debut release can give you.”

“Growing up in a small regional town teaches you to get creative with what you’ve got – everyone pitches in, everyone has a skill, and everyone wants to see each other shine. (Like my other music project – Hugo and the Hive, Indie Rock Band with my best friends) I really wanted the clip to feel like that: simple, honest, handmade.”

“The best part was making it with my mum and my partner. We all had had so many fun ideas that ended up working so well. My Partner was so keen to collaborate and jumped straight into editing with me. It became this beautiful little creative project we all built together; there was a lot of editing and reediting but in the end, it became something l’m really proud of.”

“The video reflects KILLING TIME perfectly for me – quiet moments, little pauses, the parts of life that feel small but turn out to matter the most. We shot it around the places that feel like home and always will for me… places that probably wouldn’t mean much to anyone else (in my neighbourhood and my favourite forest walk and rock pools) but mean everything to me.”

“This is my first single, my first film clip, my first step into releasing music properly. It means the world that I’ve been able to make it in such a grassroots, regional, ‘me’ kind of way.”

“I hope people see the clip and feel the same warmth I felt making it. Nothing fancy, nothing big-budget – just a young songwriter from a small town following the spark.”

Recorded at Mantle Records with Clare and Lawrence of Those Folk, Elke Louie is already turning heads with her evocative songwriting and captivating vocals, collaborating with established artists like Jen Mize from The Rough And Tumble and Clare Quinn from Those Folk — both international touring musicians in their own right. Elke’s upcoming work promises to be rich with authenticity and musical depth.

“The song’s dreamy and whispered spell is a brief but quietly compelling introduction to her art. “Killing Time” has that kind of soft proximity that makes you want to slow down and linger. Elke’s voice is frail and strong at the same time, and it takes over in the song with pure truthfulness. Her delivery walks a fine line between openness and strength, as though she were opening up to anyone who has ever stood in the quiet moments of any life.”

SINGLE REVIEW – Hype Hub Magazine, USA

“An intimate, slow-burning folk debut from a rising Australian storyteller, Killing Time introduces Elke Louie with a quiet confidence, blending acoustic warmth and introspective lyricism into something soft yet deeply affecting. The song moves with an unhurried pulse, shaped by delicate fingerpicking and Elke’s unmistakably tender vocals. There is a sense of lived experience here, the kind that settles into every word, giving the track a calm emotional gravity that feels instantly inviting. it is the kind of debut that reveals an artist who has taken the time to refine her voice before stepping forward.

Drawing from influences like Gregory Alan Isakov, Jose Gonzalez, and Big Thief, Elke builds a world where vulnerability and clarity sit side by side. The melody is subtle, the delivery understated, but the emotional resonance carries far. It feels both intimate and expansive, a quiet moment held up to the light.

The single’s visual atmosphere matches the music’s reflective pull. The warm glow against the night, the solitary figure, the sense of thoughtful pause, all echo the song’s themes of stillness and self-exploration. Ahead of her debut ep ‘Lavender’, recorded at Mantle Records, Killing Time stands as a striking first chapter. It is authentic, heartfelt, and rich with promise.”
