Fiji Day on the Coast 2026

Join us for the inaugural Fiji Day on the Coast, a free community cultural celebration marking Fiji’s Independence Day on the Sunshine Coast.

Fiji Day commemorates 10 October 1970, when Fiji became an independent nation. It is a day of national pride, reflection and celebration for Fijians around the world. In 2026, Fiji Day on the Coast will celebrate 56 years of Fiji’s independence, bringing the spirit of cultural pride, identity, community and connection to the Sunshine Coast.

This free community event will bring people together for a day of live entertainment, food vendors, market stalls, cultural celebration and community connection.

Everyone is welcome, including the wider Sunshine Coast community, the broader Pacific Islands community, members of the Fijian diaspora including iTaukei and Indo-Fijian communities, PALM workers and their families, and anyone who would like to experience and celebrate Fijian culture.

General event entry to Fiji Day on the Coast is free.

A free Humanitix ticket is required only for the Official Opening Ceremony due to limited auditorium seating.

Please note: food vendor and market stall purchases are at attendees’ own cost.

After the Official Opening Ceremony, the auditorium will continue to host live entertainment throughout the day, subject to available seating capacity.

Official Opening Ceremony

The Official Opening Ceremony will formally open the inaugural Fiji Day on the Coast.

Auditorium doors are expected to open from 10:30am, allowing guests time to arrive, find their seats and settle in before the ceremony begins at 11:00am.

The ceremony is expected to run for approximately 45 minutes, followed by a short transition before the live entertainment program begins.

The Official Opening Ceremony is expected to include:

• Acknowledgement of Country
• Traditional Fijian conch shell call, known as the Davui
• Opening prayer
• Australian national anthem
• Fijian national anthem
• Pacific community address
• Official addresses from invited dignitaries and community representatives
• Official Declaration of Opening
