FROM SCHOOL DETENTION TO THE MAIN STAGE – WAVE RAIDERS’ LAUNCH ‘DON’T WANNA BE LATE

Fresh off tearing up stages with The Screaming Jets, Wave Raiders are charging full throttle into their next chapter with the release of their brand-new single, ‘Don’t Wanna Be Late’ this Wednesday 9 April 2025. 

Due to overwhelming demand from fans, they’re cranking it up again with a launch show at Solbar, Maroochydore, on Sunday 27 April. This high-energy gig will be part of a youth festival, showcasing some of the best Brisbane and Sunshine Coast acts.

‘Don’t Wanna Be Late’ isn’t just another track – it’s a time capsule of childhood rebellion. Frontman and guitarist, Pete De Waard, shares how the song was inspired by the band’s early days of prioritising kickflips over getting to class.

“One day, our principal called up our Dad saying he knows why we were always late to school,” Pete said.

“It’s because we were always at the skate park.”

From that moment, the first-ever Wave Raiders song was born, and it’s an anthem for anyone who’s ever bent the rules for a little extra fun.

It also hits a little too close to home, with Pete explaining that his whole family is notoriously late to everything.

“So yeah, this song is basically our life story,” laughed Pete.

‘Don’t Wanna Be Late’ is a high-voltage rock banger, fuelled by the kind of energy that makes you want to drop everything and power on full steam ahead.
