From the Nullarbor to the Stage: JC and the Tree’s New Single Fuses Folk, Rock, and the Earthy Pulse of Didgeridoo

Australian folk rock act JC and the Tree are set to unveil their boldest musical journey yet on the 25th July 2025. Recorded at Lovestreet studios with producer Scott French and mastered by Trent Dobson, the track marks an adventurous new chapter for the pair, fusing progressive rock with their signature folk sound and for the first time, weaving in the resonant pulse of the didgeridoo. Known for their shimmering violin melodies and rich storytelling, the Sunshine Coast act are pushing their sound into thrilling new territory—melding progressive rock power with the organic spirit of folk and the primal resonance of the didgeridoo.

Written roadside along the Nullarbor Plain during their ‘Big Lap Tour’ across the endless Nullarbor Plain, this powerful song captures the stark beauty and vast horizons of Australia. It glides between reflective acoustic passages and explosive rock choruses, enhanced by shifting time signatures and soaring electric violin solos that deliver a truly cinematic listening experience.

Lead singer Jesse Tree not only sings but also records on two instruments he handcrafted himself – the acoustic guitar and yidaki (didgeridoo), infusing the music with a unique handmade authenticity.

This song is a big step for us creatively,” says JC and the Tree. “We wanted to capture the power and serenity of our vast Australian landscapes, but also challenge ourselves musically. Itʼs heavier, rockier, but still us. Lyrically, the song contemplates the transience of human life, exploring how our bodies emerge from the land and ultimately return to it, echoing natureʼs eternal cycle of birth, death and rebirth.”

‘Wide Open Plainʼ sees JC and the Tree sidestepping from their alt-folk stylings, and diving headfirst into prog rock territory, fusing the organic warmth of acoustic guitar and fiddle with a muscular rhythm section and the earthy drone of didgeridoo, crafting something equal parts meditative and cinematic — all while retaining the lyricism that defines the duo. Euphoric, electrified yidaki, soul-stirring guitar fingerpicking and haunting strings bleed together with earthy, powerful vocals. Eddie Vedder meets John Butler vibes.” – scenestr
