Eora/Sydney-based artist and composer Archie Tulk captures the ache of absence and the helplessness of wanting to be there for those you love in his surreal new ballad ‘I Want To’, layered with sweeping orchestral arrangements, soaring baritone vocals and an ethereal children’s choir. Out November 6, the single offers a final taste of his debut album ‘Human Noise’, arriving Friday, November 27.
With a background in contemporary composition, Tulk brings an adventurous, genre-fluid approach to songwriting, blending art-pop, jazz and orchestral music through intricate arrangements and an intimate pop sensibility. His compositions have been commissioned and performed by Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Residentie Orkest, Sydney Children’s Choir and Luminescence Chamber Singers, among others.
More recently, his previous single ‘White Bee’ was added to Triple J Unearthed rotation and saw him placed as an Unearthed Spotlight artist, alongside airplay across Triple J, 4ZZZ, FBi Radio, PBS, 2SER and more.
On ‘I Want To’, Tulk transforms the melancholic theme into a grand, emotionally charged orchestral arrangement. His deep baritone vocals anchor the track, blending with surreal layers of sweeping strings, shimmering keys, delicate flutes and an angelic children’s choir.
The arrangement ebbs and flows between restrained and otherworldly passages, building into a magnetic instrumental swell that intertwines with Tulk’s soaring vocals in a dramatic, dreamlike crescendo.
Exploring the pain and helplessness of being unable to support the people we love when they need us most, ‘I Want To’ offers another insight into Tulk’s forthcoming debut album ‘Human Noise’, where his intimate songwriting meets ambitious orchestral arrangements. As Tulk shares:
“‘I Want To’ is a melancholic, sonically epic ballad about the pain of being absent from the people you love, and the helplessness of not being able to care for them when they need you most.”
‘I Want To’ arrives November 6, ahead of Tulk’s debut album ‘Human Noise’, out November 27.
Praise for Archie Tulk
