From Sunshine Coast to Rome – Tanya George Joins Busking’s Global Elite

Australian vocal loop artist Tanya George is heading to Italy this July to perform on the world stage at the renowned Roma Buskers Festival – thanks to the bold vision of Silent Riot Collective, the creative force behind Australia’s award-winning events, Buskers by the Lake and Airwaves Festival.

The opportunity comes off the back of George’s unforgettable win at the 2022 Battle of the Buskers on the Sunshine Coast. When her main stage appearance was cancelled the following year, Festival Founder and Event Director, Cindy Jensen made a gut-driven promise to find Tanya an even bigger stage. This July, that promise lands in the heart of Rome.

“This is what Silent Riot Collective is all about – lifting artists beyond the stage and into moments that change their lives,” said Jensen.

“Tanya is a powerhouse. Her music, her energy, her authenticity – they deserve a global spotlight. I couldn’t let her story end with a cancellation.”

The cultural partnership between Buskers by the Lake and Roma Buskers Festival was born from a shared love of grassroots artistry – and a spontaneous email exchange in 2021 between Jensen and Italian Festival Director, Andrea Cicini. The connection has already seen Sunshine Coast artist Marcus Garthe perform in Rome, and Italian saxophonist/DJ Sabrina De Mitri flown to Australia.   This year, it’s Tanya’s turn.

“Buskers by the Lake was such a special festival and winning changed everything,” said George.

“I’m so grateful – not just to perform in Italy, but to experience Europe, connect with artists, and grow creatively. It means the world.”

Tanya George will take to the main stage this July as part of the Roma Buskers Festival, joining a lineup of top tier international acts. Known for its magnetic energy and spontaneous collaborations, the festival is one of Europe’s most celebrated showcases for street and stage talent.

Festival founder Andrea Cicini said Tanya’s inclusion reflects the spirit of the event.

“We’re honoured to have Tanya join us. Her voice and looping technique are unlike anything we’ve seen here – she brings something truly special.”

“Collaborations like this matter. They bridge cultures, celebrate diversity and keep the global spirit of street performance alive.”
