After more than two decades in the shadows, a remarkable chapter in Australian country music is finally being brought to light. Nellie Finley is set to release her long-awaited self-titled album “Nellie” on April 17th, 21 years after it was first recorded. (Originally – Nellie Donovan)
Captured at a pivotal time in Nellie’s musical journey, the album was never given its rightful place in the spotlight. A manufacturing error during its initial release resulted in the wrong artist name and data being assigned to the record, effectively causing the project to disappear before it ever had the chance to be heard. Yes, for die-hard Nellie fans, there are some original hard copies that were released and now are considered collector’s albums. Now, more than two decades later, these songs have been rediscovered, restored, and are ready to reach the audience they were always meant for.
“This album has lived in my heart for 21 years,” says Nellie. “To finally share these songs the way they were meant to be heard is incredibly special.”
Nellie is a deeply personal collection of songs that blends heartfelt storytelling with timeless country sounds. From the emotional depth of “Sing Me Angel” to the nostalgic journey of “Sleeping Train,” the album captures a moment in time while remaining powerfully relevant today. Standout tracks include “Those Telephone Calls,” a touching duet with her husband Col Finley, and the moving “Email To Heaven,” which bridges themes of love, loss, and connection across generations.
More than just an album release, this is the reclaiming of a story — a body of work that refused to be forgotten
