SHUMO AG Captures First Crushes & Teenage Mischief On New Single ‘Young Boy Young Girl’

First crushes, innocent romance and a little teenage mischief. Brisbane-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shumo AG captures the excitement of young love on his catchy new dance-pop single ‘Young Boy Young Girl’, out Friday, November 6. At just 14 years old, Shumo AG pairs lighthearted storytelling with energetic pop hooks, vibrant rhythms and an irresistible feel-good spirit.

With more than 700,000 combined social media followers across Australia, Southeast Asia and beyond, Shumo AG has established an international audience, further reflected in his last release and collaboration with Indonesian music heavyweights Batas Senja on ‘Iron Veins’.

Having written more than 25 original songs, the young artist has performed to crowds of up to 40,000 internationally and earned recognition through a songwriting scholarship to Prodigy Camp in the USA and his appointment as Youth Patron of the Next Up Music Awards (2026-27), alongside industry patrons Sia and Troye Sivan.

More recently, Brisbane pop favourites Sheppard (George, Amy and Emma Sheppard) welcomed Shumo into their studio for mentoring and to co-write a new song, sharing their experience and creative insights with the young musician.

On his latest single ‘Young Boy Young Girl’, Shumo AG takes full creative control, having written, performed and produced the track entirely himself, with vocals recorded in the United States during his visit for the Prodigy Camp. The result is a polished, high-energy dance-pop track packed with hooks and glossy, maximalist production.

Opening with bright, Latin-inspired acoustic guitar and soulful vocals, the track bursts into an explosive dance-pop chorus, driven by bouncy electronic basslines, shimmering synths and punchy percussion. Layers of electric guitar and electronic elements build throughout, creating a colourful, dynamic arrangement before culminating in a pulsating, beat-driven breakdown centred around the repeated ‘Young Boy Young Girl’ refrain.

Exploring the innocence and humour of a teenage crush, ‘Young Boy Young Girl’ follows a young boy caught in an awkward misunderstanding with his mum, who suspects his new love interest might be trouble. Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Shumo shares:

“‘Young Boy Young Girl’ is about a boy’s first crush and the funny misunderstanding it creates at home. His mum thinks the girl is trouble, but he sees an angel, and insists they were only watching a movie. I wanted to tell that innocent, slightly chaotic story through a bright, energetic song that people can sing and dance to.”

Bringing together his songwriting, multi-instrumental talents and production skills, ‘Young Boy Young Girl’  showcases Shumo AG’s remarkable versatility and musical instincts as a young virtuoso.

Following the single’s worldwide release on Friday, November 6, Shumo is preparing for a series of live performances across Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia, from December 18–30, bringing his music back to Southeast Asian audiences.
