The Potbelleez headline a first-of-its-kind “town takeover” inviting everyone to come out, connect and be part of the show
Coolum Beach is getting ready for a town takeover.
On Saturday 31 October, the streets, rooftops, restaurants, cafés, beach and businesses of Coolum will come alive as the inaugural CoolumLive: Rooftop Sessions brings the whole community together for an unforgettable night of music, connection and celebration.
Headlined by Australian electronic music favourites The Potbelleez, Coolum.Live is not designed to be an event that people simply turn up to watch.
The invitation is to come into Coolum and be part of it.
Bring your friends. Meet up for dinner. Grab a drink. Explore the town. Dance on the beach. Support local businesses. Catch the live broadcast. Find your spot and become part of a first-of-its-kind experience where the whole town becomes the venue.
One town. One night. One giant celebration.
At the centre of CoolumLive will be a spectacular, professionally produced dusk-to dark rooftop performance by The Potbelleez, broadcast live from Coolum.
But the cameras won’t stay on the rooftop.
Throughout the two-hour broadcast, live crosses will connect the performance with restaurants, bars, cafés, tourism operators, community activities and people enjoying Coolum—turning the town itself into part of the show.
Imagine the sun setting over the ocean as The Potbelleez take to the rooftop, while across Coolum people are dining, drinking, dancing and celebrating with friends.
That’s CoolumLive.
A live postcard of a town doing what it does best—coming together.
A proposed beachside Silent Disco for up to 500 people adjacent to the Coolum Surf Club will add to the atmosphere, giving locals and visitors another reason to get out, move, dance and connect.
Don’t watch it. Be part of it.
Coolum Business & Tourism President Paul Miley said the vision was to create something the entire community could own.
“This isn’t about putting an event in one location and asking everyone to come and watch.
“We want the whole town to come alive.
“We want people out on the streets, in the restaurants, at the cafés, on the beach, and in the venues—socialising, meeting people and enjoying Coolum together.
“The idea is that wherever you are in Coolum, you’ll feel like you’re part of something happening across the whole town.
“It’s a town takeover—and everyone is invited.”
A reason to get out, connect and celebrate
At a time when people can be increasingly disconnected, CoolumLive is about creating a reason to put down the phone, leave the house and come together.
Music provides the soundtrack—but connection is the purpose.
The event will bring together locals, visitors, families, friends, businesses, artists, community groups and tourism operators in one shared experience.
There will be opportunities to dance, eat, drink, explore, meet new people and simply enjoy being in Coolum.
Event partner Project Olympus 2032 will also bring a strong youth and wellbeing focus to the event, providing opportunities for young people to gain practical experience through the planning, production and delivery of a major live community event.
Organisers are also working towards a partnership with Sunrise Sisterhood for the proposed beachside Silent Disco, bringing an additional focus on connection, resilience, movement and wellbeing. The partnership remains subject to final agreement.
Coolum becomes the destination
CoolumLive is also designed to showcase Coolum to audiences far beyond the town.
The professionally produced broadcast will capture not just the headline performance, but the people, businesses, beaches, food, lifestyle and atmosphere of Coolum.
The resulting video, photography and digital content will continue promoting Coolum long after the event—encouraging people to visit, stay, dine, shop and experience the town for themselves.
But on 31 October, the focus is simple:
Come out. Come together. Be part of it.
Local businesses, venues, community organisations and residents will all have the opportunity to participate and help create the atmosphere.
“This is one of those events where you don’t have to have a ticket to be part of the experience,” Mr Miley said.
“You can be sitting in a café, having dinner with your family, enjoying a drink with friends, dancing at the Silent Disco or watching The Potbelleez from somewhere around town— and you’ll be part of CoolumLive.
“We want people to look around and think, ‘Wow, Coolum is alive tonight.’ “That’s the feeling we’re trying to create.”
Be part of CoolumLive
A whole-town celebration.
A town takeover.
And everyone is invited.
Further details about participating venues, community activities, the proposed Silent Disco, broadcast access and opportunities to get involved will be announced in the lead-up to the event.
