ALEIA Cuts Deep With Brooding Indie-Rock Single ‘Middle Name’

There’s a particular loneliness in loving someone who never truly sees you. Caught between longing for connection and the slow loss of self-worth, Boorloo/Perth artist ALEIA channels the aching frustrations of unrequited love into her new single ‘Middle Name’, out November 6. With her signature confessional indie-rock vulnerability, the track captures the emotional toll of giving yourself to someone who never takes the time to know you.

For those discovering ALEIA for the first time, her growing catalogue includes her debut EP ‘Public Humiliation’, released in November 2025, and recent single ‘Willpower’, whose accompanying music video has amassed over 37,000 views. Blending alternative pop and indie-rock with delicate fragility and an undercurrent of angst, ALEIA has developed a sound defined by tender songwriting and gut-wrenching emotional intensity. Her music has earned support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, ABC Perth, RTR FM, PBS, Happy Mag, The AU Review, Scenestr, MILKY, AAA Backstage and more.

Brooding and pained, ‘Middle Name’ cuts deep and raises hairs, as languid waves of overdriven electric guitar wash over a steady, commanding beat. ALEIA’s breathy, airy vocals glide above the arrangement, shifting from the delicate restraint of slow-burning verses to soaring, emotionally charged choruses. Even at its most explosive, her voice maintains a fragile tenderness, creating a striking contrast against the track’s heavier indie-rock intensity.

Mirroring this push and pull between vulnerability and frustration, ‘Middle Name’ draws on ALEIA’s disorienting experience of slowly losing herself while desperately wanting to be understood by someone who never truly sees her. Through her introspective songwriting and tendency to overthink, she unravels the emotional toll of feeling overlooked, questioning how someone can claim to love her while failing to remember even the smallest details. Speaking about the single, ALEIA shares:

“‘Middle Name’ speaks of my own personal experience of unrequited love, losing a part of myself and being unknown. At the time, I was so new to dating that I had to ask myself if it was better to be alone and happy or in a relationship and unfulfilled. The weight of dating someone who never takes the time to know you makes you question yourself and your values. To be loved is to be seen, and if you are never seen by your partner, it can make you question the whole relationship.”

Caught between the anguish of unrequited love and the helplessness of wanting something that cannot be returned, ALEIA confronts the painful reality of losing herself in pursuit of affection. ‘Middle Name’ is out Friday, November 6.
