“Elke Louie is one of the most promising and exciting artists making music today.”
“Elke’s voice is as smooth as butter… The self-directed video is washed in warmth and nature, with beautiful shots of Elke and her partner balancing on a rooftop and wandering the outdoors together. There’s a bridge surrounded by trees, a flowing creek, plants in glass jars. . . And a galaxy of stars. It sets the scene for a gorgeous love story, and the track acts as the final puzzle piece of Elke’s ‘Lavender’ EP. The video, like the song, feels like a warm embrace.
Young Gympie indie folk singer-songwriter Elke Louie has released her debut EP ‘Lavender’ (24 April 2026), marking the occasion with tour dates in South East Queensland and her first performance in Victoria. A hometown show has been added to the tour on May 31st at Perseverance Street Theatre Company, with special guests Those Folk who were integral to creating Elke’s EP.
This engaging 5-track EP includes the dreamy new single and title track ‘Lavender,’ along with earlier releases ‘Sandman’ and ‘Killing Time,’ both of which have garnered international acclaim. The tracks have been receiving airplay on radio stations around Australia and overseas, with new single “Lavender” having it’s ‘First Play’ on national youth radio Triple J, and the video premiering on Frooty.
“This EP is a time capsule of growing up in a small town. Written across my teenage years in Gympie, Queensland, these songs hold memories of places, people, first love, comfort, confusion, and change. Each track captures moments of youth shaped by both pleasure and pain, preserving the emotions and experiences that defined who I was becoming. These songs are about holding onto those fleeting years while learning how to move beyond them”, Louie said.
The Official Music Video for the “Lavender” single has again been self-directed along with Liz Wilkinson, filmed on location around Gubbi Gubbi Country/Gympie.
Discussing the inspiration behind the song ‘Lavender,’ Louie explained, “I wrote Lavender while attending a writing retreat last year, shortly after finishing the other four tracks for the EP. I felt something was missing — I hadn’t written a love song yet. Stepping out of my routine, this song came together carefully and became the final piece that completed the record. This song is for my partner and best friend.”
Recorded at Mantle Records with Clare Quinn and Lawrence Menard of Those Folk, Elke Louie’s emotive songwriting and captivating vocals are catching attention, and she has collaborated with accomplished artists like Jen Mize, and Ayla, along with Clare and Lawrence — all noted international touring musicians.
“We’re honoured to have had the opportunity to produce Elke Louie’s debut EP. Elke is an incredible songwriter with an effortless voice and musicality beyond her years. We look forward to watching Elke’s career flourish in the years to come.” said Clare Quinn & Lawrence Menard.
With early singles from this EP earning Elke Louie critical praise and a growing global audience, the ‘Lavender’ EP is poised to elevate her career and establish her as a unique voice within the international indie folk scene.

“Sandman” from Elke Louie, a beautifully assured release that feels remarkably polished for just her second single. Following on from debut track “Killing Time”, Louie leans into warm, uplifting indie-folk territory here, with gorgeous, sun-dappled guitar lines carrying a song about forgotten dreams and that unsettled feeling when something meaningful slips away. Co-written with Jen Mize and recorded at Mantle Records, “Sandman” showcases a young artist already writing with confidence and emotional clarity.”

“Elke Louie steps into the light with the quietly devastating ‘Killing Time’. There’s something irresistible about a debut that already feels lived-in, a first chapter that arrives with a kind of trembling honesty. Elke Louie’s ‘Killing Time’ is exactly that: a soft, striking introduction from a Queensland songwriter whose voice carries the weight of reflection and the tenderness of someone learning to trust their own story.” – SINGLE REVIEW No Transmission, UK
“Strong debut from Gympie’s Elke Louie on ‘Killing Time’. Lush, haunting indie folk that seeps deep into your soul. That chord shift & vocal slide during the chorus will get you every time – such a cool progression.”
